Janie's Amaretto Cottage

Yea! On Friday Janie and I spent the afternoon together
and finished piecing Amaretto Cottage!

Started on April 16th, 2014
Top finished April 10, 2015

Top finishes at 112" x 112"
It's been a wonderful journey for both of us

Janie made perfect mitered corners in the outer border!

Janie is one of my very first customers and we have become wonderful friends over the years. Both of us growing and learning as we improve our quilting skills. We already have several ideas floating in our heads for quilting ideas. Janie loves butterflies so there will definitely be lots of them stitched into this beauty!
A King size roll of wool batting is scheduled to arrive this week
along with some black batting ordered for Brandie.
Another friend doing some amazing stitching of her own
Check out her latest blog post with some amazing cross hatch
Brandie used a CD to mark her crosshatch... love it!!!
I consider myself very lucky to be in the company of so many wonderful quilters!
Enjoy your day, stitching away :0) Jo

April Goal

Considering how hopelessly behind I am in my longarm quilting duties I am setting another easy goal for April for A lovely Year of Finishes. My goal is to quilt, bind and label a flimsy. This is MidWinter Blues, a QAL with Lori ~ Humble Quilts blog. The link will take you to her post and the linky with everyone's finished tops. I am the only crazy person that made the original inspiration quilt. I do wish I had taken the time to add sashing like Lori did in her version for the QAL, it would have been way more forgiving with these blocks set on point and all of those little triangles!
I plan to do a b2b (border to border) in the center field and a border with corner design for the outer border. I have a feather and scroll design in mind. Found some tea stained muslin in my stash for the backing and am good to go! It will also be good practice to do on my Innova. I love my Innova... and the Auto Pilot, well lets say we are beginning to get along a little better!

This week as I was chatting with Nancy and Marna at Cathy's Honeyrun quilt store, Nancy was asking about my Innova. We started brainstorming ideas for names and I mentioned it had chrome handlebars, which I have yet to see on another Innova! With the names Innova and Auto Pilot she thought it sounded more like a spaceship or fancy motorcycle! So we thought of Harley! I like it!!! and the Auto Pilot, I'm thinking it needs it's own name... Hal because that computer has a mind of it's own!!!

Harley and Hal. What do you think?

Quite happy that it's Friday altho I will be working this weekend to try and catch up. Had a wonderfully evening last night. Met for dinner with Donna, Esther, Brandie and Gail at the newest TBar on Forest/FlyingV in Chico that opened last week. Food was great! After we all went to our Annie's Star Quilt guild meeting with a trunk show with Rob Appell. Very entertaining!

Enjoy your weekend!

Jo, who is looking forward to some Spring soon!

ASQG Clinic

Saturday Annie's Star Quilt Guild in Chico, CA held our January workshop. The workshop committee put together a very creative program. Gail and Michelle set up a 'Health Clinic' for quilts! There were 6 'Clinicians' on duty to receive 'patients'.  Patients were required to fill in their Quilters Medical History form and everyone received a first aid kit when they arrived for their 9:30 am appointment. Each clinician alternated sessions at one hour intervals and patients could choose which area they felt was needed to make their quilts feel better :0)

This is Judy (right) and Millie holding up Judy's quilt made for her Curved Piecing clinic. Millie held a clinic on Binding tips. I learned a new trick sitting in on her clinic but didn't get into Judy's as it was packed for each session! Curved piecing must have the flu bug that is going around!
Judy, CS our Curved Specialist

Nancy, DQS ~ Domestic Quilting Specialist
Nancy with Chris taking a close look
Nancy demonstrated Free Motion Quilting. Some of us are learning and others got a prescription on how to improve our skills! She had some great tips!

Beth, EP our expert Embroidery Practitioner!
Beth, EP above... and Joyce, our Veterinarian and Flying Geese Specialist! with her assistant Linda
Joyce shared different ways to make flying geese patches that turn out perfect! I sat in on this one because my Flying Geese are always sick. Well no more! One of Joyce's tutes was a true Aha Ha moment!

Grace and Bonnie held a clinic on Triangles. I missed getting a pic while they were in session but you can see their board in the upper left corner of the last pic.

All in all it was a great way to learn tips and tricks from our specialists! We had a delicious pot luck lunch, thank you to everyone that brought the tasty goodies from soups to desserts! Yummm! followed by show and tell...
Lynn with her smokin' HOT new truck!

Brandie with her Tree of Paradise that she is working on
LOVE how Brandie has appliqued her tree trunks and the roots form a flower or a four leaf clover. Her husband says it's a propeller! MY DH thinks the same, must be a guy thing! btw, that's Brandie of ABC. We are both working on Tree of Life quilts.
Nicki with her newest quilt top

There were patients that brought along their sick and ailing quilts that needed some TLC from Grace, our expert, teacher and problem healer! I know two quilts that really benefited!

After lunch we held a Longarm Forum with a panel of three longarm quilters. We shared information from longarm terminology and how prepare a quilt for a longarmer to batting and thread choices. Followed with Q&A. We are a fortunate group to live in an area with many talented longarmers and businesses to choose from. Four of our local quilt shops offer longarm quilting services as well as several home based business with a range of styles and services.

One more session was held so that everyone had a chance to visit one more clinic. Cleaned up and the clinic closed at 3:30. It was a wonderful day!!!

UFOs for November

Well, my list doesn't look much different from October's! I did make progress on the Tree of Life project...
Not pictured are more HST's sewn into sashing that will go around the center block or as a sawtooth border or both. Will see how many there are left when I get there ;0) Brandie (ABC blog) and I are planning to get together and get her started on growing some trees!
Still have these two to get back to. Backing for the flimsy above and to finish the blue and white top below.
One of my distractions is a BOM one of my customers wants to make. She asked me to help her with the blocks. It's a gorgeous quilt called Amaretto Cottage, a 2012 BOM by Marianne Elizabeth of Classically Home.
It's gorgeous as are the fabrics! Wouldn't this be nice in Civil War fabrics! Several of the blocks are the same or similar to blocks we made in Barbara Brackman's BOW and in her Civil War Sampler book.
Janie and I will be meeting today to finish the first block and set some goals. She is doing amazing, recovering from knee surgery, she is ready to get going on this beauty!

November, wow this year wrapping up too fast! Holiday commercials are up and running. The wind looks like it's let up for today. After 3 or 4 days of wind, it's really looking like Fall around here!

Enjoy your day, stitching away!
