These pix are from Kim's Smugmug which I found after doing a web search. Thanks Tingirl :0) All of these quilts were in the show yesterday. They were that much more amazing to see in person. I also found this photo in one of my files from pix I took at the 2013 Yuba City show. This quilt was in yesterday's show and I remembered the feather quilting in the background...

I was very drawn to the quilts of the dogs. Something I keep throwing around in my mind is to find a technique in order to make a quilt of my Crystal. I'd love to do that one day. 

Yuba City Quilt Show 2015

Brandie and I had a fun afternoon with a drive to Yuba City and attending Valley Quilt Guild's 32nd quilt show. This is the first quilt we were both drawn to in the first isle. Very cute and fun! The theme of the show was 'Not Your Grandma's Quilt' and this quilt fit that theme :0) Brandie loved the flamingos wearing boots. Very cute, Glamping in lots of bright prints! Hand quilted too!

Kim Buzolich was the featured quilter. Her quilts were stunning! She was there with her quilts in the next isle, we loved her work. Lots of machine as well as hand quilting on Hawaiian applique quilts. Kim's most recent work are quilts combining photography and free motion quilting. Gorgeous work and I didn't get one photo, we were so taken meeting Kim and admiring her work. Plus, right then we bumped into a friend that I haven't seen since my return to Chico. Nice! From that isle I spied Jim's big smile and headed over to visit the Sew So Shop's booth. I spent allot of time visiting with Jim and Nicky, owners of the shop and my Innova dealer. Caught up on the latest Innova news.  I've been hoping for a longarm event like Birds of a Feather on the west coast. Well that wish may come true later this year... Yea!

Back to quilts... my draw to quilts of course is the machine quilting :0)

Brandie and I both loved this one with piecing and applique. 

I like the cornerstones/sashing and the fill on this one.

 This quilt was just across from it and also beautifully quilted!

 This medallion quilt was fun, 

we both liked how she used the sun in the top and bottom borders.

Karen Litvinchuk and Quilts by Kathy did allot of the machine quilting for the quilters at this show. Really nice work by both the piecers as well as the longarmers. I'm usually better at documenting who did what but Brandie and I were there for another purpose as well, connecting with vendors and we were getting short on time. We are the vendor chairs for our guild, Annie's Star Quilt Guild and it was nice to meet and greet vendors that will be coming to our show as well as inviting new vendors.

New projects

I've been keeping my eye on a couple of 2015 quilt projects. Looking to see where they are going and how they are written before jumping in. Have decided on two of them to make this year. Barbara Brackman's Stars in a Time Warp is a given. It's a BOW. Another, I started last weekend is a BOM ~ Calypso Kaleidoscope by Stephanie Soebbing with info on her website Quilt Addicts Anonymous. Access to the pattern is free on Craftsy.

This evening I worked on the 3rd section for March and did a layout up on my design wall. 

Not sewn into complete blocks yet I wanted the flexibility to move the smaller 4 1/2 inch blocks around on my design wall to play with the batiks. As usual I made a few changes to the layout as well. I was drawn to the dramatic effect of bright batiks with black and it's a medallion! I used Kona black and love it, so nice to work with! Also nice is to play with batiks, my second favorite fabrics next to CW reproduction and they couldn't be more polar opposite. It keeps me balanced! 

So far so good. The pattern is well written. Stephanie also has video instructions on u-tube, altho I haven't watched. Every fabric has been pulled from my stash, a goal this year. A link to see the entire quilt top. The center will be set on point altho right now it looks like it is. You'll see or you could just tilt your head ;0)

My quilting plans this weekend are to work on bindings and labels to finish UFOs and put these blocks together. Enjoy your weekend and make the time to take some stitches.

It's time to...

Goals for March

1. Amaretto Cottage ~ Add borders to my top as well as Janie's once we have her last blocks together so that both of our tops are ready for quilting. 

2. Binding and a label on the little geometric scrappy quilt without a name. I finished the machine applique yesterday, this is a pic with them placed onto the quilted top...

It worked great using a button hole stitch to stitch the EPP pieces onto a quilted top :)

3. Binding and label on Steppin' Up the Squares, top made and quilted in February

Altho I didn't set any goals for February, I did have a finish with Beckie on Valentine's weekend each making Our Favorite Bags. We had so much fun!
